A typical renovation

  1. 01

    Mow and scarify

Cut short and remove thatch so the dressing reaches the soil.

  2. 02

    Aerate

Hollow or slit tining opens the surface for the dressing to work into.

  3. 03

    Overseed

Seed before or after dressing, depending on your method.

  4. 04

    Spread and work in

Spread thinly and drag or brush it in so the grass isn’t smothered.

Can I get top dressing in bulk bags?

Yes. Bulk bags are handy when you’re dressing in stages or need the material kept dry and contained near the pitch.

Is it the same as topsoil?

It’s finer. Top dressing is screened to spread thinly over grass and work down into the surface, rather than to build up a growing layer.
